Description
A very nice example of an early 19th Century Scottish pine "Creepie" stool.... it gets its name from the Orcadian dialect "creepie", which means to creep.... literally meaning to bend down, as you would have to, if you wanted to sit down...these very collectable stools were used by fisherman, to sit while mending their nets....farmers / milkmaids sat on them to do the milking.... and even some churches used them for their congregation to sit upon....many members would bring their own "creepie" stools to church. This one still shows traces of the original paint and has attractive "gothic" ends and a nicely shaped hole in the seat to carry it by.... in very good original condition. Scottish circa 1820-1840
