A particularly elegant antique Edwardian mahogany display cabinet retaining its original mirrored superstructure and attractive satinwood inlaid decoration. The cabinet is beautifully proportioned and combines display, storage and decorative appeal in one refined piece.
The upper section features a shaped architectural pediment with a striking fan inlaid panel above a central circular mirror. The mirror is flanked by smaller mirrored panels supported by delicate turned uprights and finished with decorative finials. The arrangement creates a wonderful sense of light and depth while providing an ideal setting for displaying silver, glassware and decorative objects.
Below, the cabinet features a pair of glazed doors with attractive geometric astragal glazing bars opening to a velvet-lined display interior. The lower section is fitted with a pair of cupboard doors decorated with finely executed satinwood fan inlays providing useful concealed storage.
Pieces such as this were designed for the Edwardian drawing room or dining room where they were used to display treasured possessions while offering practical household storage. The mirrored back reflects light beautifully and makes decorative collections appear larger and more impressive.
The rich mahogany has developed a lovely depth of colour and patina and contrasts beautifully with the lighter satinwood inlays throughout.
