An absolutely magnificent antique French painted gilt wood screen. This was made in France, it dates from around the 1880-1900 period.
It is of the utmost quality, with intricate and profuse carving throughout. There are carved dragons, dolphins at the base, floral and acanthus leaf carving, cornucopias and at the top, a cherub playing a lute. The front three panels have stunning original oil paintings depicting family life in the countryside, there is a clear glass panel at the top of each section. The reverse lower panels are upholstered in cream silk, with rope twist piping around the edges.
We have had the gilt work cleaned and revived, the panels have been re-upholstered. The condition is excellent for its age.
