Antique George II Newcastle Sterling Silver Tankard 1759
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George II Newcastle sterling silver tankard made by John Langlands I; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection.
This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver tankard has a plain circular baluster form onto a spreading circular foot.
The body of this Newcastle silver tankard is embellished with an impressive contemporary engraved scrolling leaf bordered coat of arms depicting on a fess engrailed three fountains between three squirrels grasping branches.
The decoration to the body incorporates a plain applied girdle, in addition to bands of tooled decoration to the rim.
This 18th century silver tankard retains the original hallmarked domed hinged cover with an impressive cast scrolling thumbpiece.
The hinge is decorated with pendant drop style ornamentation to the upper portion of the handle.
This antique silver tankard is fitted with a hallmarked S scroll handle ornamented with an impressive heart shaped decorated terminal.
