Description
18th Century George III antique fine silver salver waiter with scalloped edge and shell motif raised upon 3 feet. All in excellent condition. Maker Hugh Mills 1746-1751 (registered Feb 1746). Stamped on base D. Horry.
1749 date marks on the silver salver - see photographs.
As entered in London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, their marks & Lives:- Mills, Hugh - First mark entered as largeworker, 23 May 1739. Address: 'at the Seive on Saffron Hill'. Second mark, 14 February 1746. Address: Blue Court, Saffron Hill. Presumably dead soon after as Dorothy Mills and Thomas Sarbit are recorded by Heal at Saffron Hill, 1746 onwards. Heal however also records him till 1749, but this could be directory delay.
