Description
A handsome George III inlaid mahogany tea table of demi-lune form. The hinged top is veneered in well-figured mahogany with a satinwood crossband and twin chequer stringing in boxwood and ebony, opening to reveal a polished mahogany surface edged with a chequer-inlaid border. The frieze is similarly detailed, with outlined panels above square tapered legs inlaid with boxwood lines. The craftsmanship and balance of proportion reflect the refined neoclassical influence of the Hepplewhite period and the piece is typical of well-executed late 18th-century work. Designed to sit neatly against a wall and when required, open into a full circular tea table. Its compact scale makes it an ideal piece for a hallway or living space. Presented in very good antique condition with a rich aged patina and light surface wear. One front leg is a little bowed inwards, there are some historic veneer repairs in places and an old repair to one rear leg now stable. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home. English, circa 1790. Closed - H: 74 W: 91.5 D: 45.5 cm Open - H: 72.5 W: 91.5 D: 90.5 cm
