Description
Fine and impressive antique George IV English sterling silver quart tankard; an addition to our silver tankard collection.
This exceptional antique George IV sterling silver quart tankard has a baluster form onto a plain spreading circular foot.
The tankard is embellished with original chased floral, leaf and scroll decoration incorporating a scene depicting two birds in a rural setting.
The body of this tankard is further ornamented with two scrolling leaf bordered shaped cartouches; the cartouche to one side displays a bright cut engraved crest of a demi-lion rampant.
The cartouche to the other side of the tankard displays a coat of arms of a saltire with roundel, above three bars wavy*.
This antique George IV tankard retains the original hinged hallmarked domed cover surmounted with a shaped pierced decorated thumbpiece.
The cover is encircled with chased floral and foliage decoration accented with a stylised motif to the upper portion.
The hinge is decorated with pendant drop style ornamentation.
The interior of this exceptional tankard retains the original gilding.
This large quart** tankard is fitted with a fine opposing scroll handle ornamented with a scroll terminals and impressive scrolling leaf decoration.
The circular foot is encircled with bands of tooled decoration.
