The pair presents an exceptional fluid and open design, with an irregular form, scrolled edges and a beautifully raised and stippled acanthus leaf in the centre. True to Rococo philosophy and embracing its revival, the salts feature asymmetrical elements with a sculpture-like design as if to invite the onlooker to view it from all angles. Contrary to its utilitarian and simple nature - to hold salt, the artistry and time that would have gone into making such a pair is a testament to its quality and craftsmanship. The top bowls are both gilded (gold on top of solid silver) which not only offers a beautiful contrasting tone but also protects the silver from reacting with the content held within.
