Antique German Sterling Silver Musician Table Figures/goblets 1900
An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare antique German sterling silver table figure/goblet set; an addition to our range of collectable silverware.
These exceptional antique sterling silver goblets have been realistically modelled in the form of a seated orchestra.
The surface of each figure is embellished with an array of embossed, chased and cast decoration, replicating the details of each figure's anatomical features and attire.
The nine orchestra members are holding an variety of instruments, including: horns, wind instruments, a drum and cymbals; the tenth figure bears a conductors baton.
Each whimsical Dutch inspired figure bears a detachable cover ornamented with ribbon tired ruffled collars.
The covers are each surmounted with a sprung 'bobble head', bearing a variety of facial features and expressions.
Each circular rounded beaker/goblet is supported by matching four-legged chairs.
The goblets retain the original gilt interiors.
The hallmarks struck to the surface of these impressive ornaments include:
Maker's mark: n (Neresheimer & Co.)
Hanau marks: Untraced*
Importer's mark: BM (B Muller & Son (Berthold Muller))
Assay mark: London/Chester, England
Silver quality/purity mark: lion passant (sterling, 925/1000)
Import date mark: e/R (1900)
Additional mark: F (foreign manufacture mark)
These exceptional ornaments have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system, and as often the case, one piece was assayed in Chester and the remaining examples were processed in London.
These antique silver musician models/table figures are charming and highly collectible objects, valued for their detailed craftsmanship and playful character. Celebrating both musical artistry and silversmithing skill, they appeal to collectors, musicians and music lovers alike. They make thoughtful gifts for milestone birthdays, retirements or the commemoration of musical achievements.
* Hanau pseudo-marks were not registered with an administrative office and no records exist to check them against determining an attributed identification to be a comparison or probability.
