History of His Master’s Voice The history of His Master’s Voice begins in the final years of the 19th century, when Emile Berliner, inventor of the flat disc and the gramophone, founded the Berliner Gramophone Company in 1895. In 1899, the company was reorganised in London as The Gramophone Company Ltd., and shortly afterwards, after expanding into typewriter manufacturing, adopted the name Gramophone & Typewriter Ltd. (G&T). It was during this period, between 1900 and 1909, that the highest-quality gramophones were produced, including the famous Monarch Senior, intended for the most distinguished clientele. The French branch, based in Paris, played a decisive role in the European expansion of the brand.
