A characterful turn of the Century industrial bank of drawers, compact in scale yet rich in honest wear and patina.
46cm at its highest point, 30cm at its widest, and 21.5cm at its deepest point.
The cabinet is constructed in solid timber and retains its original oxide-red painted surface, now attractively worn through years of use, revealing a softly distressed, workmanlike finish. The front is fitted with six graduated drawers, each with a simple turned wooden knob, very much in keeping with late 19th to early 20th Century industrial and workshop furniture.
Opening the drawers reveals an unexpected refinement: the interiors are lined with dark velvet, likely a deep navy or black, suggesting the cabinet was intended for the storage of precision instruments, tools, samples, rather than purely rough workshop use. This lining would have offered protection and organisation, pointing toward use in a laboratory, jeweller’s workshop, or industrial office environment. One drawer has a great addition of divided components.
The piece shows authentic signs of age and use, surface wear, small knocks, and paint losses, adding greatly to its character while remaining structurally sound. The subtly moulded top and stepped base lend a pleasing sense of proportion and finish.
An evocative early 20th-century industrial storage piece, combining utilitarian form with surprising quality, ideal today as a collector’s cabinet, artist’s storage, or statement item in an industrial or eclectic interior.
