Description
Art nouveau butterfly brooch measuring a larger 5.4 cm in width across the top wing span. This butterfly brooch is made of solid silver and is marked to the back JA&S for the prestigious silversmith John Atkins & Sons. The brooch is also stamped with the number 2369 which is probably the design number and is also stamped Sterling Silver. I estimate this brooch dates circa 1915.
This fine butterfly is offered in good condition with no chips or cracks to the guilloche enamel. The brooch has strong silver pin and an early c-catch. The silver back has been only lightly polished and retains some natural patina with and a gilt finish.
