Description
Antique oak bureau desk made in the early 1800s so probably Georgian. It has a sloping lid which opens out onto pull out supports, with a fitted interior having five small drawers and some cubby holes, a sliding flap revealing a hidden space, and a writing surface. Would work nicely as a laptop work station. Below that are two small drawers with two larger ones under. Shaped bracket plinth at the base. Antique brass handles and keyhole escutcheons (the handles are later replacements, though still old). There's a working lock and key on the lid. Unusually shallow slope: normally they're much steeper. Dimensions: 95cm x 52cm x 93cm high (83cm deep when open; writing surface 77cm high)

condition
Condition is not too bad structurally: it's solid enough; the drawers are made of quite thin oak so we've had to brace one of the big ones inside. The drawer bases are a little delicate and can flex: they're fine for normal use but probably won't cope with heavy loads very well. I'll happily brace them inside if required. There's been a lot of repairs to this piece over the years but it is kind of part of the charm; cosmetically there are loads of scuffs, marks and dings (see pics) and it looks every bit as old as the probable 200 years it's had. But it's still very usable and the price reflects the condition.
