Description
Early antique solid dark oak coffer box made in the early 1700s probably. Panelled construction with carved frame. The front panels have marquetry flowers in them, probably done by a handy Victorian, who seemed to hate these chests and did all manner of modifications to them. Inside there's a candle box with a lid. Handmade blacksmith hinges (one maybe replaced but a long time ago).

condition
Condition is pretty good structurally; there is a repair to a crack in the back edge of the lid which has left a bit of flex in it, but it seems alright and is supported by the box edge when closed. A crack in one top panel but not a lot of movement in it. Inside is pretty clean. There's a lock but no hasp; it might work but unlikely. Cosmetically there are plenty of dings, scuffs and marks etc, unsurprisingly in a piece this age and generally part of its appeal. Little bit of old woodworm underneath which we've treated for good measure.
