Description
Antique Gentleman's large and highly impressive Swiss Kay's "Screwback" Lever, high grade 15 jewel railway type pocket watch with beautiful ivory dial in a chunky chrome hermetic 'drum' case. C ~1920's. Looks to have been much loved and very well taken care of -her condition certainly reflects this. Full working order and is an excellent timekeeper (within +2/-2 minute per 24 hours) with plenty of room on the regulator (which is sat correctly in the central position) for any further fine tuning. Fully checked and serviced by my highly experienced watchmaker and is guaranteed to be 100% authentic - a timepiece to grace any Collection! Dial;- Impressive and distinctive, high gloss, 'snowflake' white porcelain dial in mint condition - absolutely no hairlines, marks or nibbles. Signed clearly in bold black script; Kay'S "Screwback" Lever. And signed in black arched script to base of sub dial; Swiss Made. Bold black Roman numerals with black minute markers and bolder black 5 minute markers to chapter ring. Large sub dial with black Arabic numbers and black seconds chapters. Finely cut, original large bright blued steel spade and whip hands and original blued steel arrow tip seconds hand all in lovely straight, unmarked order. Original very thick bevel edge glass (not acrylic) in amazingly clear and bright condition with just two or 3 very short and fine little (micro) surface scratches showing under eyeglass Only. Case;- The highly polished chunky chrome 'drum' case (5.4cm diameter / 7.5cm from top of bow to base, 2.4cm depth) is heavy (has a pleasing solid feel in the hand and total watch weight is 113 grams), robust and in lovely condition (please excuse the reflections in the pictures, was extremely difficult to photograph) - absolutely no wear or indentations and just a few light and fine little surface scratches to the back commensurate with age and use in her 100+ years service. All covers (both inside and out) still retain their original, high gloss, mirror finish. The front bezel (which has an attractive crisp milled circumference) and back cover screw on and off correctly (hermetic), closing tightly and I have oiled the threads for years of continued smooth operation. The inside of the back cover is clearly stamped; Nickel Chromium Plated and is numbered; 2923715. Also carries an old watch repairers initials; Drs&S which is neatly placed just to the inner Circumference. Movement;- The stem wound and set high grade 15 ruby jewelled, 3/4 plate Swiss lever movement is in superb clean order (tiny bit of patina showing under eyeglass only to the engine turned top plates) and has just been checked/serviced by my highly experienced watch maker. Has a solid bi-arm balance with brass balance screws and two brass meantime screws (for precision timing), blued steel flat balance spring which is in the round and 'breathing' well, large ruby jewels in sunken chaton settings, ruby end stone, ruby pallet jewels, mirror finish mainspring and ratchet barrel covers and original matching steel case screws. Stamped clearly on the top plates in arched black script; Kay & Co. Ltd. Swiss Made. Balance action is absolutely tremendous in all positions (could not be any better) and is keeping excellent time with a sure, strong positive action - runs like a train. Winds extremely smoothly and fully (do not be afraid to fully wind, over-winding is the greatest horological myth!) Hand set operates smoothly and correctly - the pull up/push down action is very firm and true. Lovely un-worn original big chrome 'onion' crown. Good original un-worn (looks to have never been carried on a watch chain) large chrome Bow. Appraisal;- A very handsome and highly impressive Gentleman's top grade Swiss timepiece which as mentioned earlier was much loved and proudly cared for by the original owner - she will make a perfect gift and a heirloom to be enjoyed by your future generations! Ready to wear or display. Will be delivered in a new presentation box as shown and be very securely and safely packed.
