Description
This is an antique public house tankard. An English pewter and brass quart jug, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890. A characterful and authentic example, rich in social history and traditional pub measure detail. A fine example of period tavern ware with classic quart form and a robust, tactile presence, that displays a desirable aged patina with a gently time-worn appearance. Polished brass rim presents subtle golden tones, contrasting with the weathered pewter. Broad, comfortable handle with a distinctive serpentine form. Fascia hand engraved, appearing to read Imperial Standard. Replete with official Quart markings for public house measures. Features the Victorian cypher, with later Edwardian verification marks. The base engraved with reference to the White Lion public house, Brighton. Formerly of Queen's Road, the pub operated between 1790 and 1973. A fascinating piece of licensed trade history, this antique public house tankard is Ideal for collectors of brewing or pub memorabilia. Delivered ready to display.
