Description
Early 19th Century (circa 1820) English Regency period mahogany kneehole writing table, the well figured top with a softly rounded edge set over a full-width frieze drawer, above a central arched kneehole flanked by two deep drawers, all raised on slender ring turned front legs.
Embodying the late Regency shift toward versatile domestic furniture, the piece condenses the practical storage of a pedestal desk into a light, elegant kneehole form. Ideal as a compact writing desk in a small study, a bedroom dressing table or an entrance hall console.
Very good antique condition, with a warm patina and surface character consistent with age, including stable, historic horizontal shrinkage splits to the end panels. Later Regency-style brasses accurately preserve the period profile. Structurally sound and ready to place in the home.
