Antique Rosewood Prie Dieu Chair Prayer Seat

19th century rosewood Prie Dieu chair with pierced and scrolling top rail, barley twist seat back supports and on cabriole legs, with floral embroidery. The seat height measures at 41cm. There are two small wear tears as pictured, one on base the other on top. The term 'Prie Dieu' is French for Pray to God. This chair is primarily for private devotional use but may be also be found in churches.
