Antique Silk Kashan Carpet

This is a rare and very fine antique Kashan carpet hand woven in pure silk which dates from the late 19th century. The carpet, from Central Persia, has the most beautiful Kashan design which is intricately and finely woven with a central medallion in warm coral within a warm ivory field and enclosed by floral spandrels and deep borders in shades of soft red, indigo and heather. Kashans are renowned for the expertise of their scrolling fine designs and also for the quality of wool used. To find an antique Kashan of such quality and in silk is rare indeed. The carpet is in good condition for its age, there is some wear to the ends and some overall wear to the pile. Its selvedges are complete and it retains good depth of colour throughout.
