The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Peerless underneath the balance, and it has the brevet (patent) number 4821/115 which relates to an 1892 patent for additional improvements to the chronograph counter mechanisms. The patent was in the name of Georges Nicolet of Stauffer & Co.
Although Stauffer & Co produced movements in their own right, they also sourced a smaller number of movements from IWC and possibly from other watch companies. This particular movement has the Stauffer & Co mark (underneath the dial), together with the Peerless name which tells us that the movement was made by IWC (International Watch Company).
The chronograph measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case backs both have Continental 935 silver marks. The case is in lovely condition, and it has the original owner’s monogram to the back of the watch.
The glass lens is in lovely condition.
The dial looks good to the naked eye… there are a few faint hairlines visible through a magnifying loupe. Original pin-set hands. A subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock for constant seconds, and another at 12 o’clock to record up to 60 minutes… the hand on this sub dial moves anti clockwise to indicate the minutes elapsed… this, and the curved arrow, are often seen on Stauffer chronographs.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
All prices include UK postage (excluding Northern Ireland).
