Antique Sterling Silver Table Vesta, Matchbox Cover, Salmon

A fantastic and rare antique sterling silver table vesta or matchbook cover. This would have been stood atop a table for many to use, probably in a gentleman's smoking room in a wealthy household. It holds a large box of matches for the stylish and easy striking of one match to light a pipe or perhaps a cigar, or even a candle to read by. It stands in four neat bun feet and holds a large matchbox. The top has an inset hand painted image of a salmon by a fishing rod making this piece even more interesting. It most certainly belonged to a keen fisherman, maybe presented as a gift. A delightful and scarce antique piece and a real treat for anglers or the tobacciana or silver collector. Fully hallmarked for sterling silver, assayed at the now highly sought after Chester assay office, 1913, maker Grey and Co.
