Description
An original theodolite or Surveyor's level dating from the early to mid 20th Century. The Theodolite itself has a black finish with lacquered brass fittings. It is engraved with the maker "Reynolds & Co, Birmingham, 15944".
It is a high quality instrument with an extendable telescope, two spirit levels and adjustment screws in the base to ensure it is exactly level. It screws into a mount that could then sit atop a tripod.
It comes in its original fitted box which has a lovely aged patina. The box is in good order and displays well. Below the lid is an adjustment paper label from J.Halden & Co dated 1943. There are also a couple of further adjustment papers from the 1940s and 1950s.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

condition
It is in good condition and displays well. The theodolite lenses are undamaged and they focus well with a good range and clarity. There are some small knocks and surface marks and some tarnishing to the brass but nothing detrimental and the parts move well. It is not a new instrument and is sold as a collectors item rather than a working scientific instrument.
