This is an antique tallboy correspondence desk. A French, drawing room escritoire in book-matched kingwood, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900. A statement in both form and function, this fine cabinet exudes elegance and exceptional craftsmanship.
Superb French craftsmanship, with exquisite book-matched kingwood throughout. Fall front desk, beautifully disguised as a faux drawer fascia, forming a practical writing surface. Original tooled leather skiver in good order, positioned at a comfortable writing height of 72cm. Striking satinwood interior, hosting a suite of smaller drawers, the central drawer fitted with a sliding divider.
Five useful drawers with quality oak and mahogany boxes, and hand-cut dovetail joints. Fall front dressed with a brass lined lock — in working order, key present. Refined pilaster detail, framing the elegant run of drawer fronts.
Quarter book-matched top, offering superb grain interest and rich caramel hues. Decorative relief carvings to the upper and lower apron, adding further visual appeal. Panelled oak rear, further testament to the fine cabinetry employed in the creation of this wonderful example.
This antique tallboy correspondence desk is a highly desirable escritoire, offering excellent utility and refined, late Victorian taste for the discerning interior. Delightful material choice and finish enhances an exceptionally complete and presented example. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home.
