Antique Tribal Shekarlu Rug 1.97m x 1.26m

A wonderful antique tribal rug woven by the Shekarlu tribe circa 1900. The Shekarlu are a small sub tribe of the Qashqai, known for their association to the sugar trade (Shekar is sugar in Farsi). Their rugs are quite distinctive from other Qashqai weaving and increasingly difficult to find. The border is classic Shekarlu (and almost identical to the rug that Sigmund Freud had on his couch!) along with the distinctive diagonal comb motifs on the field. Size: 1.97m x 1.26m (6ft 6in x 4ft 2in) This rug has light, age related wear, slightly heavier in a couple of areas (see photos). A few old repairs, sympathetically done (see photos).
