An exquisite Antique late Victorian Mourning ring modelled in 9ct Yellow Gold with a black Enamel face and shoulders and a Forget me not in the centre with Pearl studded petals which symbolises love and remembrance. A hidden locket can also be found concealed behind the face and contains the hair of a loved one from long ago. Mourning jewellery in the Victorian Era sometimes contained a lock of hair as a souvenir to remember a loved one so that a piece of them was always kept close to the wearer. The inside of the shank is complete with hallmarks along with the inscription – T.W. – Aug. 11. 1882 and on the outside of the shank – T.W. – Dec. 13. 1890. These were significant dates to the original owner and one is most likely when the loved one passed away. It’s an extraordinary antique treasure steeped in history and in excellent condition.
