Antique Victorian Mahogany Large Long Kitchen or Dining Table

Large, long antique Victorian mahogany kitchen or dining table made around 1860 probably; very nicely turned legs, good and chunky; absolutely super top, made from one piece of Brazilian or Cuban mahogany timber. Shocking to think how large a tree they ripped from the rain forest that would make a piece this wide; certainly would or should be illegal now. Anyway, it's a good indicator of this piece's age and quality. Good length while being quite narrow; should easily seat eight but a great central kitchen piece too. Condition is quite good really; structurally it's sound; one joint needed re glueing and it's good and solid now. The top is nice and flat though there are some obvious cracks where it had split and been re glued, partly by us. Cosmetically it's a bit fab, I think; I love the way mahogany looks when it gets a bit beaten up, second only to old pine. The legs and frame are mostly just a bit patchy in the finish but the top has seen some heavy duty use; lots of nice dark scratches, dings and cuts etc. In fact, we've sanded a lot of them out, only because the splits had to be glued and always need levelling off afterwards; once you sand one part, you're pretty much going to have to do all of it, for consistency. Still looks super though. A couple of old paint patches have left remnants that will have to stay (see pics). We've given the top a couple of coats of finishing oil: it looks well and is moderately water resistant. We can put another coat on if required: the more the better for water proofing but it can start to get glossy so depends what you like.
