Antique Victorian Pine Chest of Drawers

A Victorian pine chest of drawers, with beautiful pale honey coloured timber and a slightly darker pitch pine top. The chest stands on turned legs and has a shaped gallery at the back. I always like a pine chest of drawers, and in my opinion this is one of the nicest ones I’ve come across. It is well proportioned, with just the right amount of detail supplied by the shaped upstand at the back and the turned feet. The colour of the wood is lovely and the slightly darker top is a nice contrast. The chest appears to be original throughout, with original wooden knob handles and brass escutcheons, and is in good solid condition. There are various marks to the surface which I have tried to show in the photos - the main ones are some scratches on the front of the drawers which I imagine were done by a child, and a paler mark on the top (probably a water stain). There are a few small chips to the edges of the drawer fronts. There is a split on one end of the chest which isn’t causing any problems. There is a repaired break to part of the shaped upstand, and the back edge of the top has split and been repaired with a nail where it meets the upstand. The upstand is only fastened to the back edge of the top, is made of quite thin wood, and is therefore a little fragile. There is some movement if you press on it - we have added a few screws to try and secure it a little better but it still moves. This won’t be a problem once the chest is in position up against a wall, but a bit of extra care needs to be taken when moving it around. This is an antique item and as such may have signs of wear in accordance with its age. Anything that we think is of note will have been mentioned above, but please study the photos carefully to satisfy yourself as to its condition as it is not possible to list every little mark or flaw.
