Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Fruit Knife - 1891 Hallmark

Here we have a very pretty solid silver Fruit Knife from the late 1800s. It’s a larger sized fruit knife, perfect for slicing apple or other fruit. It comes in a gift bag and would be a great present for a Birthday or Anniversary. It was made by Mappin Brother and it was Hallmarked in Sheffield in 1891. The maker’s mark and hallmarks are on one side of the Sterling Silver blade. The handle is made of beautifully smooth Mother of Pearl with a very pretty engraved pattern on one side and a flower design on the other. It also features a blank oval cartouche. The blade folds back into the handle with the end protruding a little as many fruit knives were designed to do, to enable easy opening and closing. The silver blade is shiny and a little wavy in places. The tip at the very end is slightly bent but this wouldn’t affect its use. It was a very pretty design to the back of it.
