An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver sugar sifter spoon and bowl - boxed; an addition to our silver teaware collection.
This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver teaware set consists of a sugar bowl and sifter spoon.
The bowl has an oval rounded form to an oval spreading foot.
The surface of the bowl is embellished with exceptional chased floral and scrolling leaf ornamentation accented with trellis designs, all on a matte background.
The decoration to the sterling silver bowl incorporates a cartouche to either side; one bears the feature hallmarks and the other remains vacant.
The upper portion of this exceptional bowl is encircled with a swept, elevated pierced decorated shaped border, emanating from the aforementioned floral and foliate designs.
The lower portion of the bowl is embellished with concave fluted decoration, to a pierced decorated conjoined bracket style foot, reflecting the design of the border.
The exceptional sugar sifter ladle is embellished with further trellis and scrolling leaf ornamentation, reflecting the design to that of the bowl.
The shell shaped bowl is embellished with scrolling pierced 'sifter' holes to each scalloped flute.
The interior of the exceptional sugar bowl retains the original gilding.
This antique sugar sifter spoon and bowl set is fitted to the original, fine and impressive hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior securing with a push fit catch.
Each piece of this exceptional set was crafted by the London silversmiths George Maudsley Jackson & David Landsborough Fullerton of Josiah Williams & Co; the items will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system, the bowl is struck with the date letter 'b' and the sifter spoon bears the date letter 'c'.
