Antique Victorian Walnut Writing Desk c.1880

A fine late Victorian walnut writing desk, the beautifully time-worn original inset tooled-leather top set in front of small drawers joined by a central shelf and finished with elegant pierced brass gallery rails. Below, a central frieze drawer is flanked by two deep drawers (each stylized as two), all retaining their original Aesthetic Movement angular brass drop handles on cruciform backplates. The desk is raised on eight slender, turned and fluted legs, terminating in original brass and ceramic castors. Fitted with original locks stamped “Hobbs & Co. London” and “Nosotti London,” the piece was likely supplied through the Charles Nosotti firm, pointing to a high-quality, late-Victorian London commission. Very good antique condition with light surface wear. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place. Supplied with one original working key for all locks.
