Penderyn Antiques are a family run business residing in an old Welsh chapel in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. We source and restore a wide range of furniture, antiques, interiors and collectables. We have no specific style that we adhere to, (if we like it, we’ll buy it!) but we do have a keen interest in early Welsh country furniture and unusual decorative items.
At Penderyn Antiques, we express an indebtedness to those nameless joiners who worked with wood so long ago before plastics and the age of automation. For in building furniture with integrity; so that it will last hundreds of years, they have been our mentors. Their work remains a testament to their commitment to their craft and excellence. Wood is the most used of all our natural resources. We have a duty to recycle, reuse, adapt and preserve it. We must use wood to create furniture that has longevity and combat the ‘throwaway’ society…even though it does grow on trees..”

Description
A handsome Victorian walnut Davenport desk of compact proportions, raised on bun feet and retaining a warm rich colour throughout. The leather inset writing slope lifts to reveal a fitted interior with small drawers and compartments, while the upper stationery compartment opens to reveal divisions for pens along with the original ceramic inkwells. Below are two small working drawers with opposing dummy drawer fronts, while one side houses four graduated drawers with corresponding dummy drawers to the reverse.
The desk is richly figured throughout with beautifully matched burr walnut veneers, further enhanced by fine boxwood stringing and decorative geometric inlay to the drawer fronts and panels. The turned supports are joined by carved scrolling brackets terminating in shaped platform feet with recessed castors below, giving the piece a strong Gothic revival influence. A highly decorative and practical antique writing desk of excellent quality and striking appearance.
