Description
A stunning, fine and impressive antique 1700s white paste and enamel, 18 karat yellow gold mourning ring; part of our diverse antique Georgian jewelry collections. This stunning, fine and impressive antique Georgian mourning ring has been crafted in 18k yellow gold. The anterior face of the ring is embellished with an impressive collet set rectangular cut white paste. The shank of the ring is ornamented with impressive white enamel panels incorporating the segmented inscription 'ANN FRECKLETON OB. 4 SEP. 1733 †T 30'*; this ring commemorates Ann Freckleton, who died aged 30, on 4th September 1733. This stunning example of enamel jewelry has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18k gold. Such early examples in this exceptional condition are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. A Georgian enamel ring in gold is a romantic and historically rich gift, ideal for anniversaries, milestone birthdays or as a distinctive engagement ring. Its craftsmanship and sentiment make it a treasured heirloom. NOTE: * The initials 'OB' reference the word 'died', coming from the Latin word 'obitus', and the '†T' is the abbreviation of the Latin adjective 'aetatis' meaning 'at the age of'.
