Description
19th Century (circa 1830) English William IV antique rosewood pole screen, the moulded adjustable frame enclosing a needlepoint panel depicting an exotic parrot set amidst flowers set on a pole capped with a removable turned finial and turned double-baluster stem with crisp ring mouldings, all raised on a triform base displaying wild, highly figured grain, and raised on turned bun feet. The shift towards a heavy triform base in the 1830s was a practical advancement in cabinet-making, lowering the centre of gravity to balance a larger framed banner without the instability of earlier Regency tripods. Visually, the piece operates as a striking sculptural accent, using the deep rosewood tones to set off the vibrant, hand-worked needlepoint panel. Very good antique condition, showing light surface wear and minor polish crazing to the pole consistent with age and use. Structurally sound and ready for placement.
