Description
A very impressive large boulle bracket clock by Arsandaux of Paris. A brass and red tortoishell boulle case and wall bracket. Inlaid front and sides to the case with glass apertures. Gilded case mounts and surmounted by a trumpeting cherub and finials. A '13 piece' enamel dial with Roman numerals and outer 5 minute markers. Lovely original gilt hands with graduated piercing. A glass front panel with a harp to the rococo gilt lower mount. Adjustable engraved bun feet. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the 1/2 hours and hours on a bell with an outside count wheel and tapered pillars.
The Arsandaux family of clockmakers are recorded in Tardy's 'Horologers Francais' book as working in Paris from 1743 and also with A.R Sandeau spelling.
