The lid stays down when the pen or pencil is held in place, remove the pen or pencil and the lid will open (pen or pencil not supplied). Hallmarked London 1931. The "Asprey" notebook holder is superb quality, and is in very good condition, with a couple of very small blemishes, commensurate with age and use.
