Description
A most unusual silver and celluloid bookmark, dating from the Art Deco period. The body is formed in faux tortoiseshell with a sterling silver terminal. The bookmark has a lovely 'fylfot' charm or fob. This is an ancient symbol (not to be confused with the swastika), associated with Buddhism and believed to be for good luck and peace.
The patent number was registered in 1923, by Arthur Johnson Smith of Birmingham.
