Description
A good scarce German-made "Unigraph" desk compendium no. 6742 by Lufft, comprising graphical barometer, thermometer and card calendar c.1930s.
The barometer flanked by twin hexagonal chrome plated columns displaying pressure in inches of mercury with a range from 28" – 31" divided down to 10ths together with illustrated prognostications arranged around the circumference of a carousel and viewed through an oblong port set in a short chromium plated tube, the higher pressures in full colour. Moving band index displaying engraved pressure values. Finely developed aneroid movement assembled between twin plates and driven from a flux welded tri-segmented, probably beryllium, capsule, rack and pinion transmission.
Surmounted by a chromium plated top hat bi-metallic thermometer, the scale arranged in degrees Fahrenheit.
The calendar of traditional double-sided manually set design and retained by twin chromium plated hexagonal columns.
The whole set in a one piece cast and japanned aluminium frame.
Condition: The barometer fully serviced, conserved and calibrated, see performance chart. Barometer and thermometer working well, the plated parts bright and clean. Some calendar cards missing. The japanned base with slight losses.
Comments: A very clear 1930s design statement from a pre-eminent maker, very much for the connoisseur of the unusual and collectors alike.
