Description
An arts and crafts "Scotch" type chest .
Hand beaten handles and back plates .
Great and unusual colour .Striking finish .
The wood appears to be Sweet Chestnut .Possibly fumed .
Small turned feet .
Sides held in place with three vertical supports .
No comparison can be found for this but one could elucidate ;
Possibly based on the Ambrose Heals St.Ives chest circa 1898 .
Probably made by the Guild of Handicraft or Heals .
Very unique chest with Guild of Handicraft hand made handles . Heals attribution .The style , together with identical handles can be seen on other Heals furniture
Previous owner wrote the drawer positions down the side of the drawers in pen (idiot).So this needs cleaning or sanding off .
Height is 1220 mm .
The top is 1220 mm by Depth 511.
The main body depth is 470 mm .
Priced at £1350 fully restored.
Less if bought as found .

condition
Pretty good condition ; currently as found .
There are a few minor faults .
Bottom left drawer rest needs clamping back and has an old repair .
One foot has a slight split .
The drawer runners have been crudely repaired despite the chest looking great in the photos the carcass ie interior requires tightening and straightening up etc .
The finish looks great .
A few drawers need some gluing as they are loose at the corner joints .Easily fixed .
No keys for locks .
No visible worm .
Extremely heavy dense wood .
Odd marks ; to be expected .
One drawer front has a slight dent .Not too visible .
Top appears to be slightly limed/weathered as do sides .
Handles and back plates appear in good order .
One replacement screw which can be replaced with a period screw .
Still a great chest and all restoration fairly simple .Just time consuming .
Drawer stops have been crudely repaired and will also need replacing or adjusting .
So its the interior that needs the work .
Exterior as one can judge from photos looks amazing .
