The back of the bow carries the entwined B and G Bergdorf and Goodman mark.

Bergdorf and Goodman is a luxury department store on 5th Avenue, New York founded in 1899. Bergdorf and Goodman stocked jewellery from a number of iconic designers and in around 1980 launched its own brand of high quality statement costume jewellery strongly influenced by designers such as Marina B, Barry Kieselstein-Cord, Verdura and Angela Cummings. For example, some aspects of the design of this particular necklace seems to have been influenced by Barry Kieselstein-Cord who in the 1980s produced mixed material designs incorporating cord or leather necklaces with attractive metal fittings and stunning metal central drops.
The 1980s Bergdorf and Goodman jewellery became very fashionable and still remains very sought after.
