Beswick "Old English Dogs" Rare Opaque White No 1378-5

John Beswick Ltd started making animal figures in 1934. In 1939 Arthur Gredington became chief modeller and the horses and the farm and other animals and birds followed. They always produced highly detailed accurate, quality figures and this one is no exception. The company was sold to Royal Doulton in 1969 and all production ceased in 2002. These are Old English Dogs number 1378/5. These were made as a true pair and only sold in pairs. They were mainly available in red or white with gold highlights. To quote the Beswick Collectors Guide " Also seen in opaque white glaze" so these completely white pair are rare. These were made from 1955 to 1973.
