Description
Set of Arts & Crafts antique brass fire irons by Bill Thornton and Charlie Downer who were blacksmiths and were part of The Guild of Handicraft until 1908. They carried on working and produced work of the highest standard and quality. They did work for architects as well as others. One can see their workmanship speaks for itself.
To my best knowledge only four sets of these fire irons have come onto the UK market in the last eight years. The other three sets I can direct you to. Other sets are more wrought iron but with brass handles. This set is elevated to a higher level as they are all brass.
Please note:- one dealer has claimed that these were designed by A.W.Pugin. Obviously he would have been dead before these were made!

condition
condition
Very good condition. These were polished by the previous owner. Some signs of use as expected. Tongs need pulling together to make them look perfect. Poker is not perfectly straight. Shovel has been used. In reality these just scream quality and any use adds to their charm and antique history.
