Description
A finely detailed early 20th-century brass plate featuring a heraldic coat of arms with the Latin inscription “URBIS PALLADIUM ET GENTIS” – translated as “Guardian of the City and the People.” This historic motto is associated with Pau, the birthplace of Henry IV of France (1553), whose initials H IV are prominently engraved within the shield. The plate showcases intricate repoussé work, with a textured background, a central shield depicting a crown, peacock, and heraldic beasts, and a decorative border adorned with repeated “H” and fleur-de-lis motifs. Its craftsmanship and historical associations make it an ideal collector’s piece for heraldic, royal, or French history enthusiasts. Dating to circa 1930, this brass plate has a warm patina that enhances its period charm.
