magnificent bruce james talbert designed for Gillows of Lancaster, impressive and rare Victorian palace sized, Arts & Crafts/aesthetic movement fireplace of the finest quality, fitted to the inner borders with 20 tiffany favrile glass salamander listed designed tiles, the monumental walnut, oak and amboyna ebonized wood fireplace and overmantle with an inner hand beaten copper surround and canopy hood with matching copper fender stamped with registration numbers.the fireplace was probaly designed by Bruce Talbert, born in Scotland (1838-1881) or Alfred Waterhouse, born in Liverpool (1830-1905) whom both worked in-conjunction with Gillows for Arthur Lasenby Liberty (1843-1917) of London he was known to spot and champion designers of the day, his store in london opened in 1875, during the 1880-90s liberty built strong relationships with many English avant-garde designers who practised the artistic styles known today as the arts and craft movement and the commisions were made in the gillows workshops at lancaster.
