Caughley Porcelain Blue & White Fence Low Chelsea Ewer Cream Boat c.1780
A sweet 18th century porcelain cream boat of "low Chelsea ewer" shape, with spiral fluted walls with moulded acanthus details around the base and an ornate shaped handle with small outer spur and kicked out thumb rest. Made by the Caughley manufactory, printed with the "Fence" pattern, copied almost identically from Worcester. Lovely, crisp printed image, a small floral device inside the base and a double blue band inside the scallop shaped rim. Unmarked, c.1780.
These cream boats were made at Worcester also in an identical shape and, where unmarked, can be very tricky to tell them apart. Very subtle variations in the pattern, the potting and a slight difference in the curve of the thumb rest shows that this example is Caughley. Reference: Caughley & Worcester Porcelains by Godden.

It measures 11cm (4 5/16") long, 6.3cm (2 1/2) high and 7.7cm (2 5/8") wide.
