Celtic Sterling Silver Brooch, with a Mounted Knight, Gemstones, Vintage

A unusual style of a sterling silver brooch stamped only with "silver" to the reverse. Circular with the outer rim decorated with 4 cabochon circular orange carnelian stones, claw held, with bosses in between and in the space that is left filled with a Celtic Knot design. In the open centre of the brooch is a 3 dimensional armed and armoured knight mounted on caparisoned horse (horse trapper) and striking down with a spear and surprisingly it is done correctly with the haft of the spear in the right hand raised and the left hand on his knee guiding the spear. Both the horse and knight are 3 dimensional and very well modeled. In the style of St. George and the Dragon but there is no dragon. Roll over safety catch with a slightly off centre pin so that it hangs correctly against the fabric. Difficult to put a date upon this brooch, style and design point to the 1940s/50s. Partially cleaned and possibly would benefit from further cleaning.
