Chinese 19th Century Qing Dynasty Pale Celadon Jade Pendant

Offered for sale is this 19th Century Chinese Qing Dynasty pale celadon jade pendant of unusual capital 'A' form. The stone is of an even pale celadon colour and the pendant is carved to the front with a Kylin in relief with a bifid tail and intelligent use has been made of the russet coloration which highlights and accentuates the beast. Chinese legend has it that the Kylin only appears during the reign of a benevolent Emperor and that its tread is so light it can not be seen, even on soft grass. The reverse of the pendant is incised with stylised, allegorical Chinese characters and a suspension hole is seen at the top in the middle of the elevated angular section. PROVENANCE: ex. the personal collection of David Battie, Oriental expert on BBC's Antiques Roadshow for 40 years (the longest serving cast member). The pendant measures 42mm high and is 35mm at the widest point at the bottom. Wonderfully tactile in the hand, the jade pendant highlights the carver's skill, has a great provenance, a desirable even pale celadon coloration and is unusual in its 'A' shape form.
