Description
Size: 27 cm tall Condition: There is a vertical stress crack running down one side of the vase, 11 cm long. This appears to be stem from a firing imperfection. The crack is difficult to spot (but like all cracks, once you know it is there you will find it more easily!). Other than this the vase is in very good condition, with a few small firing imperfections typical of genuine Kangxi ware. Simply decorated in a bright cobalt blue with a parrot on a branch of a tree springing from a grassy bank, this is an elegant, and delicately potted porcelain vase. The foot is neatly finished and the base bears a six character Kangxi reign mark inside a double circle. Although reign marks are not common on Kangxi ware, this mark together with the character of the vase, has all the expected attributes of a genuine Kangxi mark. The Kangxi emperor was the second in the long Qing dynasty and he reigned from 1662-1722. A cultured emperor, he re-opened the famous kilns at Jingdezhen and revived an imperial and commercial porcelain industry. Kangxi ware is not uncommon and varies hugely in design, quality and value, but it was also widely imitated in the 19th century. This is a nice simple piece of the Kangxi period, priced to reflect the minor fault.
