Also known as LOTUS SHOES, these delicate examples were made during the late 19th century for a Chinese woman with bound feet. In the last picture you can see where the silk material has perished over time. The soles have been beautifully quilted. The tradition for foot binding was started in the 10th century by a dancer called "precious thing" these shoes are only 15cm in length
