Description
A genuine Chinese Han Dynasty (202 BC - 9 Ad, 25 - 220 Ad) two handled pottery vase with scrolling handles above a baluster shaped body. The vase retains some original red pigment and also has black horizontal bands. The underside of the vase reveals the early, circular paper trade label of Bluett & Sons London which has self-evidently been affixed to the vase for quite some time. Commonly called 'Bluetts', the firm was one of the most prestigious London dealers of ancient Chinese art and artifacts in the 1920's and 30's and indeed, post war.
The vase is in good, honest overall condition save for a small historic chip to the outside of the slightly spreading foot (please view images).
An old, painted collection number (4746) can also be seen to the underside of the foot.
Provenance: The vase is ex. the personal collection of David Battie, Oriental expert on BBC's Antiques Roadshow for 40 years, the longest serving cast member.
