Known as 'Chevaux' and sometimes as 'Chaldean'- Designed by John Armstrong and produced by Clarice Cliff for the 1934 Harrods Art in Industry Exhibition. Other contributors included Paul Nash, Graham Sutherland, Laura Knight, Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant and Barbara Hepworth. Fully stamped and signed to the base. The plate dates to 1934 In good overall condition. There is age related crazing and a very tiny and shallow nick to the edge (see last photo). Of all the works produced for this exhibition, this is my favourite design. Stylish and classy, it is a classic piece of ceramic art. In my view, still under-priced and undervalued.
